Garners Field Farnham Scouts

Garners Field – Archery, All Weather Shelter and Climbing Wall.

A lot of work has happened on the Archery Range, the All-Purpose Shelter and Climbing Wall at Garners Field.

Archery

Thank you to Kristal Derrick (Hampshire Scouts Assessor) for helping to finalise the design, Ray Deare (Monday Crew) for creating the range design including organising materials and putting it together with the help of the Monday Crew – oh and getting a grant to help pay for this and the shelter improvements, Gary Thain (Warden) for organising the bows, arrows and targets.

The range is a Come and Try It range and governed by the Archery GB rules in regard to set up/equipment.  The range can be booked via the Campsite booking form; 1.5 hour session is £25 including borrowing equipment (£10 with your own equipment.)

Check if available: https://farnhamscouting.com/website/Campsite/archery-range-bookings/archery-range-booking-calendar/

You must has a Scout Permit holder to run the session; if your Group does not have one please contact me and I can e-mail District Permit holder to see if they are available.

Please see current permit holders including from our recent course held at Garners Field. – https://farnhamscouting.com/website/archery-course/

All Purpose Shelter

The shelter is used for shooting activities; as such it has now been refitted to ensure this is safer and there is less damage to the structure.

Thank you to Hamish and Kim White for co-ordinating the requirements and doing the work on the refit.

The shelter must be booked via the Campsite Booking form and costs £10 per 1.5hr session; there is no District fire arms however Tongham Hogshots and 5th Farnham (Bourne) do have fire arms and we have a number of NRSA qualified leaders across the District – please ask.

Climbing Wall

Our climbing wall has been inspected and is now in line with the relevant standards.

Thank you to Neil Peerman (DNSC/GSL/Exec), Bill Weller (GSL/Exec), Philip German (Warden) and Gary Thain (Warden) for their hard making repairs, pulling together the necessary paperwork and co-ordinating work done to get the wall pass the inspection.

The wall will re-open in the new year once all equipment has been review and renewed as appropriate and safe.

The wall must be booked via the Campsite booking form.

District Update – It’s the End of Term (July 2021)

So thank you to everyone who has given 100% and got our Scouts out and about again, I have visited a few and it is fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves.

Good luck to those about to embark on Summer Camps.

So, what does 19th July mean for Scouting…..we are still Yellow, restrictions on numbers is lifted but It’s important to remember that we’re still in the middle of the pandemic and we all have the duty to make sure we’re following the letter and spirit of the guidance. Although there is no longer a legal requirement for many things, as Scouts, with a duty of care to others and to young people, we recommend and expect the application of good hygiene and covid-safe approaches to all our meetings, events, activities and residential experiences.

Well Done Scorpions

While out and about in Farnham town centre, a patrol of 6 Scorpion Explorers Scouts found a member of the public that had a knife wound – they controlled the situation and used their emergency procedure knowledge to provide 1st aid, call an ambulance and remain calm and productive.

Well done to all those involved in the incident this really shows what #Skills for Life is all about.

All Scouting nights away must approved by the District Commissioner, the NAN form and Risk Assessment should be sent no later than 7 days before the event (preferable ASAP).

Travel

Minibus and coach travel – 2m distances between those traveling is preferred but not always possible, where 2m is not possible then 1m with additional controls is permitted. Where the full use of a method of travel such as minibus is vital to a young person participation then all seats may be occupied but this must be done with additional controls such as face coverings, good hygiene practices, additional ventilation and the journeys kept as limited as possible.

Remember you require permits (valid for 5 yrs) – currently The Scout Association is not issuing these so if you do not have one already you can not use a minibus;

https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-your-section/administration/minibus-permits/

If you do not have a Midas qualification then please contact me for approval to drive.
