Farnham District Scouts – October 2022

Dear All,

The Queen’s Scout Award is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members and comprises of a variety of activities to complete. – https://www.scouts.org.uk/top-awards/queen-s-scout-award/

The award takes a lot of hard work and effort, covering a range of challenges.

I am extremely honoured to congratulate Freya Slape, currently Assistant Scout Leader at 5th Farnham (Bourne) on achieving her Queens Scout Award.

Family Camp – 21st – 23rd April 2023 – our district Family Camp is an excellent opportunity for your family to enjoy a weekend of camping together and enjoy the activities that are put on.

The charge is £12.50 per person for the whole weekend and we are able to do this due to everyone helping out; therefore we ask everyone to volunteer for at least an hour over the weekend to help their groups activity or one of the central activities (catering, crafts, parking, climbing).

Further details will be going out in January along with the booking form system opening.

However, on Thursday 10th November 2022, Garners Field, 7:30pm onwards we will hold a planning meeting and all are welcome to give their opinions and offers of help – even if you can not make the meeting please provide feedback on things you would like to see, improvements, things you do not want to see.

It would be great to get a rep. from each Group to ensure we know what activities will be on offer and share you feedback from across the district.

Café:

Gill and Brain Sneddon have been doing the café since 2015 and have developed it to the current level, so I have 2 asks:

  1. come 2025 they will be doing a lot of celebrating and as such we are looking to train some apprentices to help spread the load as well as filling in for them
  2. what are your opinions on the current offerings; what would you like to see, are we offering to much

MIDAS – Mini Bus training

Mini Bus Training

Our District policy states that any driver transporting members of the Scout Association by minibus must hold a current MiDAS certificate.   With our trainers in place this is in force, forward planning is needed to ensure that the certificates are in place.

Training consists of a day’s theoretical courses followed by an assessment drive – previous courses have been a weekend day followed by an evening.

We will be arrange training sessions in the near future but it would be helpful to understand, please let midas@farnhamscouting.com know should you require training.

Farnham District Scouts – July 2022

What has been happening:

Scoutabout – fantastic weekend nearly 5000 people on site; well done and thank you to all our volunteers without who our 130 Scouts could not have had the wonderful experience and opportunity.  Particular shout out for Oscar (5th) for helping co-ordinate including sorting the transport, Sam (2nd) for hiring the van and picking up all the equipment and especially Sarah (2nd) for organising the food – most important for keeping th e Scouts energised and happy.  Also for those who organised our District Tomahawk activity and those who helped on shooting and kayaking.

Scoutabout is back in 2024……………………

Farnham Carnival – well done to 4th for winning Gold at the Farnham Carnival.

Please let me know of any events/achievements you would hi-lighted for my next e-mail.

Farnham District Family Camp 2022

Farnham District Scouts

In my humble opinion Family Camp 2022 was a real success, the atmosphere and the smiling faces the main give away.

If anyone has photos that I can publicly used I would really appreciate being sent them – https://farnhamscouting.com/website/family-camp-2022-pictures/

Thank you to everyone who has helped ensure that this Family Camp happened from set-up to completion to taking part, and to those who will be still working to break camp this week. There are many hands involved, many volunteers, without which we could not stage this fantastic event.

I like to thank the Mayor of Farnham Councilor Alan Earwaker for his words at our St George’s Service and also Surrey Scouts, Paul Iverson, ACC Scout

I would like to particularly thank;

Site and Booking Team; Gary, Davis, Oli, Eric, Philip, Nicky, Josh, Linda, Danielle, Janet, Michael, Scotty, Steve, Austin. Matt and others who help with set up throughout the week before.

Amenities; Pat – who keeps our facilities clean and tidy.

Café – Gill, Brian, Sarah, Anna

District Activities – Crafts – Chris, Janet, Climbing – Bill, Tom, Hamish and team, Archery – Judith, Stephen and team

Groups/Network – we are very lucky to have had such a variety of activities put on by each Group/Network all of which take planning, time and work to assemble and operation.

Explorers – firstly to the leaders who enable the Explorers to camp as a family and the Explorers that attended and volunteered not only on the inflatables but where they were needed including kayaking, café, archery and runway.

Garners Field Monday Crew – without whom we would not have such a beautiful site.
